I love zombie movies. There is nothing more ridiculous and entertaining than a horde of the living undead surging towards a group of survivors. Zombie movies come in all different types and here are a few of my favorite zombie films.

28 Days Later may be one of the creepiest zombie films I’ve seen. A patient awakens in a hospital only to wander the halls aimlessly looking for help. He finds pockets of resistance as they try to fend off the virus-fueled undead. Military groups set up the strongest areas, but these are super-fast and intelligent zombies who are massing. With a unique film style and an interesting take on zombies, this movie is different than Night of the Living Dead clones.

Zombie movies can be both comedic and offbeat. Shaun of the Dead follows a group of British friends as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse. Shaun sleepwalks his way through life and has trouble keeping his relationships intact because of his lackadaisical attitude. Shaun and Ed comically bumble their way towards safety. Can zombies cure relationships as well?

Relationships are a key part of the next film. Fido is a zombie. Fido is also the pet of Timmy Robinson and his wealthy family. Zombies as pets can cause problems, especially when they eat the neighbor. It has equal parts heart and humor, and a movie about love between a boy and his zombie is not one to miss.

My last film is not for the faint of heart. Dead Alive has buckets of blood, disgusting scenes and humorous asides, which makes it one of my favorite zombie movies. There are drastic steps that need to be taken when a Sumatran rat-monkey bites your mother. Violence and absurdity abound, especially when the family reunion happens to take place during the same weekend. See what Director Peter Jackson did before his time with The Hobbit.

I don't love zombie movies. But I do love 28 Days Later. It transcends the genre and should be seen by zombie and non-zombie lovers alike. It also has a stellar soundtrack featuring Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. How many zombie flicks can claim that?
