As part of Anythink Startup Month, we're highlighting entrepreneurs and interesting businesses in Adams County. Stay tuned for weekly profiles throughout September.

Having opened its doors this past May, Mother Tucker is one of the newest breweries in Adams County. With a focus on family, music and friendship, Mother Tucker has developed a delicious menu of beers and a much-needed community space for the Thornton area.

After working in the insurance industry for over 35 years, owner Scott Tucker decided to follow his passion full-time. Like many young businesses, Mother Tucker began in a garage. For years, Scott tested new brewing recipes on his friends and family from the tasting room he built in his garage. Once word got out around the neighborhood, and more folks began drinking his beer, he decided it was time to take the project to the next level.

I had the chance to talk with Scott about the celebrations and challenges that come with starting your own business.

Q: What’s been the biggest challenge in starting Mother Tucker?

Scott Tucker: For us, it was finding a location. We had another building on Pennsylvania Avenue that we had been working on for over nine months. We had just started on the build-out, and our landlord bailed on us. Everything was ready to go to build the brewery, and we had this big set back. We’re really happy with the space we’ve got now, and it’s a great location. It all worked out for us really well.

Q: What has been one of the most rewarding aspects of starting your own business?

S.T.: To stand here and see the smiles on people’s faces, and how much they enjoy being here and drinking our beer.

Q: What’s a word of advice you would give to someone thinking about starting a business?

S.T.: Do it. Do what makes you happy. Life’s too short to be miserable.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Anythink will host Budgets & Brews at Mother Tucker Brewery. This introductory session on creating a budget and managing expenses is sponsored by the Anythink Foundation. Registration includes a free pint. You can visit Mother Tucker any time at 2360 E 120th Ave, Thornton, CO 80241. Click here for more information.
