On Saturday, November 13, the doors of the renovated and expanded 9,000-square-foot Anythink Commerce City library will reopen, and Commerce City residents plus library lovers from around the region are invited to help us celebrate. This is the first of three outdated branch library buildings being renovated by Rangeview Library District that are scheduled to reopen in 2010-2011.

The debut takes places from 1-6 pm; festivities will include tours, refreshments and entertainment provided by area musical groups. The library will also be open for business, so anyone will be able to sign up for a library card or check out books from the beautiful new library.

Renovations at the Anythink Commerce City library include a 2,300-square-foot addition to the existing building with a new entry plaza facing the corner of 72nd and Monaco; a children’s pavilion, computer lab and teen area; and a reading nook with fireplace looking out onto a small enclosed garden. The children’s pavilion features glass walls looking out onto an outdoor children’s area. The renovation was designed by Humphries Poli Architects and built by White Construction Group.

The building boasts many elements of sustainability including carpeting made from recycled materials, geothermal heating and cooling system, Solatubes and a “green” roof atop the children’s area, planted with xeric local flora. The freshly landscaped site will also be home to a new community garden that will be planted and maintained by area neighbors with support from Denver Urban Gardens.

Renovations are already underway at two other Anythink libraries located at 8992 Washington St. in Thornton and 7611 Hilltop Circle in Denver. Both are scheduled for completion in early 2011.
