Plots available at Anythink Commerce City's community garden

With spring season right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about our gardens. Anythink Commerce City, in partnership with Denver Urban Gardens, offers a limited amount of gardening plots for public use. Both new and established gardeners are welcome to join and collaborate with each other to cultivate fresh organic produce, tasty herbs and beautiful blooming flowers.

The community garden works on a first-come, first-served basis. Gardeners need to turn in all the required paper work, as well as the one-time yearly deposit of $35, before April 18. This covers gardening space (11’ x 11’ plots, a total of 121square ft.) and utilities such as water and compost. At the beginning of the season, new soil is provided, in addition to a limited amount of seeds.

As of this publication date, there are eight plots available. Interested in joining our community of gardeners? Please contact me at amontalban@anythinklibraries.org or call Anythink Commerce City at 303-287-0063. I'll provide two forms that need to be filled out and talk more in-depth about plots, dates, seeds and transplants. Summer harvest might start around the second week of May, right after the last frost – it all just depends on our crazy Colorado weather. There will also be a mandatory community work day around that same time to get the overall garden cleaned up, socialize and exchange advice with fellow gardeners and help each other with various duties.
