This month, we will be joined by the Ni Shang Dance Academy as they show us how to do the Peacock Dance, a traditional Chinese Folk dance. The Peacock Dance is the most famous dance in the Dai Minority area, located in Yunnan Province, China. In the Dai culture, the peacock is a symbol of beauty, happiness, and luck. Join the Colorado Symphony Education Department and spoken word artist Frankie Le’Troy for a two-part online workshop that will provide participants with an opportunity to explore their own voice through spoken word. Under the guidance of a professional artist, work toward creating your own individual piece. Participants are encouraged to write and share their pieces with Frankie or other workshop attendees. As a part of this year’s Lift Every Voice Virtual Youth Concert presented by the Colorado Symphony, workshop participants will engage in materials and concert performances to inspire and help lift their own voices. This program will be held online via Zoom. Join BMoCA Educator Melinda Laz for a video demonstration and interactive online art workshop discussing BMoCA's Spring 2020 exhibition Night Reels: The Work of Stacey Steers. Artist Stacey Steers is known internationally for her process-driven, labor-intensive animated films composed of thousands of handmade works on paper. The exhibition featured several of her films, sculptures, installations and collages. For this program, a video and art project will be presented online that you can watch and create in the comfort of your own home. 

A live video chat via Zoom will follow on Friday, Jan 29 at 4:00pm, during which questions can be asked and answered, additional demonstration can occur, and participants can chat or share their work with BMoCA Educator Melinda Laz. Registration will be limited to 20 participants; Registrants will be provided with necessary art supplies to create their project (available for pick-up at the Perl Mack Branch). It’s Gogh time! Watch the world’s first fully painted feature film, Loving Vincent, and meet Dena Peterson, one of the artists who worked on the film, to discuss the process of bringing Vincent Van Gogh to life on the screen.
