Painting from life – “en plein air” – is both a challenging and rewarding way to depict the natural world. Join local artist Loretta Foyle for a live outdoor workshop in pastels for beginning and intermediate experience levels. Light snacks, art supplies and an easel will be provided to participants, but please bring along your own chair, sun protection, and water. We will meet at East Lake's tennis courts before journeying as a group to our location promptly at 10am. Appropriate for adults. Space is limited; online registration required. Please email mmayo@anythinklibraries.org with questions.

Thinking about going on a hike soon? My advice: take the time to smell the flowers, literally. Recently I went hiking with me family. Admittedly we were all a little out of shape from the lack of being outdoors and found ourselves taking many small rest breaks as the incline claimed our energy much more quickly than expected. We found ourselves marveling at all the small details nature has to offer – wondering why certain trees have different types of bark, and what did poison ivy really look like? What is the difference between a shrub and a tree, a weed or a flower?

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love everything about it. I love the clean smell of the rain, I love feeling the spring sunshine again, and I love seeing the first spring flowers peeking up through the snow. This spring, as the saying goes, has "come in like a lion," and I thought the snow would never end. But it seems it finally has, and summer is quick approaching. I've been itching to really get my hands dirty in the new community garden and start eating fresh food again.
