Native American Art: Dream Catchers

Saturday, March 28, 11 am-1 pm

The Native peoples of the north have been making dreamcatchers for a very long time. Following the teachings of the spider, the dreamcatcher is said to catch the bad dreams of a night and burn them off in the sunlight so that the person sleeping under the dreamcatcher need not have nightmares. Learn more with traditional Apache artist David Atekpatzin Young about making and decorating a small dreamcatcher.

Native American Art: Ojo De Dios

Saturday, March 7, 11 am-1 pm

The Huichol people are the talented yarn workers of the Indigenous community. One of the many crafts they make with yarn is the Ojo de Dios, or the “eye of god.” Learn more with traditional Apache artist David Atekpatzin Young and create an Ojo de Dios out of sticks, yarn and decorations.

Elbow macaroni in a gooey cheese sauce is a beautiful thing. But what if you swap out that gooey cheese sauce with hot fudge? Together we will explore what foods will and what foods will not mac and cheese. Students in grades 6-12 welcome.

Sweet frosting on a chocolate cupcake can put a smile on the face of many. But what happens when we put pickle flavored frosting on a cupcake? Together we will explore what foods will and what foods will not frosting. Appropriate for students in grades

6-12.

Explore a vast palette of colors with different textures, tones, and mediums with five workshops this fall. All ages are welcome. 

Color Stories, Part V: Chains for Change, II Monday, Dec. 16, 4-5 pm 

Let’s start a chain reaction…right in the lobby of the library! Finish up the co-creation of a colorful installation that will be exhibited and contributed to throughout the Winter.
