Anythink offers two new ways to connect with nature

Anythink now offers two new ways to help connect the community with nature. As part of a state pilot program, Anythink has teamed up with Colorado Parks & Wildlife to promote outdoor exploration and learning through the Check Out Colorado State Parks initiative. Anythink customers are encouraged to visit Anythink Brighton, where they can check out one of nine Osprey backpacks, each containing a seven-day parks pass, good for entrance into all 42 Colorado state parks. These backpacks also include a number of other items for exploration, including a magnifying glass, compass, binoculars and several informational guides to help you discover Colorado trails and identify native flora and fauna. Anythink Brighton is one of eight Colorado libraries involved in this pilot project, which will continue through March 31, 2016.

Additionally, all local fourth graders are encouraged to visit any Anythink location to receive a free pass to more than 2,000 federally managed parks nationwide as part of President Obama’s Every Kid in a Park campaign. This pass admits the fourth grader and any accompanying family members or passengers access to these national parks through Aug. 31, 2016. Every Kid in a Park is a nationwide call to action to build the next generation of outdoor stewards and encourage a connection between young students and nature. Passes can also be obtained by visiting the Every Kid in a Park website.

“These programs provide more opportunities — at no charge — for kids to play, discover and learn in the Great Outdoors,” says Ronnie Storey-Ewoldt, Anythink public services director. “Exploring our state and national parks gives young students and their families a healthy and fun way to engage with nature.”

These campaigns are part of Anythink’s ongoing commitment to promote outdoor literacy and discovery through initiatives like Explore Outdoors, Anythink’s outdoor classrooms. These spaces encourage kids to spend time outside while improving their math, science, language and socialization skills. With areas for building, exploring natural materials and making music and art, each element of these classrooms encourage creative play. Explore Outdoors classrooms can be found at the Anythink Wright Farms, Anythink Commerce City and Anythink Brighton locations.
