Anythink Hosts 'Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings'

Community members are invited to explore the educational and thought-provoking exhibition “Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings” on display Aug. 9-Sept. 28, 2013, at Anythink Wright Farms in Thornton, Colo. The exhibition, produced by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., is a comprehensive examination of the Nazi book burnings, featuring free-standing graphic panels with reproductions of photographs, newspapers, posters, documents and books, as well as audio-visual components with historic film footage. With six thematic sections, “Fighting the Fires of Hate” invites participants to learn about this historic event and how it continues to resonate in American politics, literature and popular culture.

Anythink will host several interactive programs in conjunction with the exhibition throughout its seven-week run. Exploring the theme of censorship from multiple angles, these programs will also coincide with Banned Books Week, celebrated nationally Sept. 22-29, 2013. Program and event details, including opening reception information, will follow in coming weeks.

“One of the key tenets of libraries is providing the unfettered access to information and ideas,” says Anythink Director Pam Sandlian Smith. “Libraries are the connectors and positioned as the centers of democracy. We are honored to be able to host this exhibition. Our hope is that this provides thought-provoking ideas that spur community engagement and conversation.”
