Anythink announces an evening with Eric Liu

On Oct. 4, 2018, Anythink will host “Civic Power in Action: An Evening with Eric Liu” at Anythink Wright Farms in Thornton, Colo., from 6-8 pm. During this special dialogue, founder of Citizen University and director of the Aspen Institute Citizenship and American Identity Program Eric Liu will discuss themes from his book, “You’re More Powerful Than You Think: A Citizen’s Guide to Making Change Happen.” In this book, Liu emphasizes that by practicing power, everyday people can become change-makers as active participants in the civic and political spheres. This form of civic engagement also encourages what Liu calls “radical listening,” an effort to re-humanize others with differing opinions on important topics so that people can have better arguments in an era of political divides. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in discussion in large and small groups. The first 100 people to register for the event will also receive a free copy of Liu’s book.

“We are grateful to host Eric Liu,” says Anythink Director Pam Sandlian Smith. “The library is the ideal place for this type of enriching community dialogue and civic engagement.”

“Civic Power in Action: An Evening with Eric Liu” follows the success of “What Every American Should Know,” a community dialogue hosted at Anythink Wright Farms in 2016. During that event, community members gathered to explore local perspectives of how the country can cultivate a sense of shared destiny and common civic purpose in an age of increasing diversity and widening inequality. Feedback from this event highlighted that community members are seeking opportunities for civic dialogue in spaces like libraries.

The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited; registration recommended. The first 100 people to register will receive a free copy of Eric Liu’s book, “You’re More Powerful Than You Think.”
