Request for Reconsideration of Library Resources Policy
MISSION STATEMENT: We open doors for curious minds.
PURPOSE OF REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION OF LIBRARY RESOURCES POLICY
Anythink provides spaces, materials, displays, programs and services to Adams County residents, as well as informational and recreational resources that represent a variety of viewpoints. The materials, displays, programs, services and resources provided represent Anythink’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and free speech principles, and are chosen in accordance with library policies and procedures. Anythink upholds the right of individuals to access these resources, although the content may be controversial, unorthodox, or unacceptable to some. While Anythink’s varied collections and programs are available to all, it is not expected that everything offered will appeal to everyone.
REQUEST SUBMITTAL PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS
Any resident or property owner within the boundaries of Rangeview Library District may submit a Request for Reconsideration by completing the appropriate form and returning it to the library. A resident or property owner in the Rangeview Library District may submit up to five requests for reconsideration in a calendar year.
The form will be forwarded to the Executive Director who will appoint a director to lead a review committee that includes members of the library’s professional staff and a member of the community to review the request. The professional staff may include guides, specialists, managers, supervisors and/or a director. If an identical or substantially similar item or program has been reviewed in the last three years, Anythink reserves the right to deny an additional review.
The committee will then make a recommendation to the appointed director, who will review their findings and contact the requesting party with their decision. The requesting party will receive a response from the appointed director within 30 days of receipt of the Request for Reconsideration. The item or program in question will remain available to the public during the Request for Reconsideration process. CRS 24-90-122 prohibits retaliation against library staff, contractors or volunteers for refusing to remove a library resource before it has been reviewed according to this policy, or for making acquisition, display or programming decisions in good faith accordance with library standards.
The requesting party may appeal the decision in writing. The appeal will be forwarded to Anythink’s Executive Director who will review the Request for Reconsideration and the committee’s recommendation and issue a final decision which may not be appealed.
After a final determination on a reconsidered resource, the decision will be made publicly available by the Board of Trustees.
Formal requests for reconsideration, either written or in person, are subject to the Colorado Open Records Act and are not protected by library user privacy laws.

Vulnerable Persons Policy
MISSION STATEMENT: We open doors for curious minds.
PURPOSE OF VULNERABLE PERSONS POLICY
People are encouraged to use Anythink’s branches as spaces for reflection, discovery, socializing, inquiry and creative exploration.
There may be times when an individual visiting the library is vulnerable or at risk, and Anythink staff may seek assistance on behalf of that person. Anythink respects the privacy of all library customers and will only intervene when someone is in a vulnerable situation.
A vulnerable person is an individual of any age who demonstrates they are unable or unwilling to care for themselves.
PARENT, GUARDIAN OR CAREGIVER RESPONSIBILITIES
A parent, guardian, or caregiver is responsible for monitoring the activities and regulating the behavior of children or other persons requiring supervision during their library visit. Anythink staff are not responsible for any consequences of parents, legal guardians, or caregivers not fulfilling their responsibilities.
Anythink staff are not trained or expected to provide care and supervision for children or other persons in need of constant attention.
VULNERABLE CHILD DEFINED
Libraries are important community spaces for children and teens to learn, socialize and grow. Spaces and programs are developed specifically for these age groups to support their learning and social needs. No matter their age, all individuals who visit the library must follow the Anythink Library Use Policy; the library also acknowledges that children mature at different ages.
Anythink defines a vulnerable child as an unattended child in the library between the ages of birth and 17 years old who Anythink staff believe to be at risk.
Parents, guardians and caregivers are encouraged to use the library with their children; whether those parents, guardians and caregivers are present or not, they are responsible for the behavior and wellbeing of the children in their care.
Based on their behavior, if a vulnerable child comes to the attention of library staff, staff will make a good-faith effort to contact the parent or guardian.
VULNERABLE ADULT DEFINED
Anythink defines a vulnerable adult as a person 18 or older who is unable to be at the library independently and Anythink staff believe to be at risk.
Based on their behavior, if a vulnerable adult comes to the attention of library staff, staff will make a good-faith effort to contact their emergency contact.
EMERGENCY CONTACTS
Children and adults who rely on others for life skills, transportation, or guidance should have emergency contact information readily available and be able to contact caregivers independently, as needed. The library is not responsible for retaining this information. If a parent, caregiver, or guardian cannot be reached, the person will be referred to local law enforcement.
Anythink staff may attempt to contact a parent, guardian, emergency contact or local law enforcement when:
- The health or safety of the person is in doubt;
- A person is frightened or confused while alone at the library;
- The behavior repeatedly disturbs other customers and has caused library staff to ask the person to leave the library;
- The building is closing.
Anythink staff are not responsible for preventing vulnerable persons from leaving library grounds or monitoring or managing their behavior. Under no circumstances will staff take the unattended person to another location.

FILTERING
Anythink filters all internet use in compliance with local, state and federal laws mandating the filtering of internet use in public libraries. Please be aware that filtering software is never completely accurate. The filter may block sites that are acceptable in a library setting or may fail to block something illegal or objectionable. Adult customers may request that authorized staff temporarily disable the filter.

Collection Development Policy
MISSION STATEMENT: We open doors for curious minds.
PURPOSE OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Collection development is the ongoing process of evaluating the materials and services available to a library for purchase or licensing and deciding on their inclusion or retention in a library’s collection. This policy outlines the guidelines and principles of Anythink’s collection development process.
Anythink provides spaces, programs, and services to Adams County residents, as well as informational and recreational materials that represent a variety of viewpoints. The materials selected represent Anythink’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and free speech principles.
The intention of this policy is to provide transparency to Anythink’s process of acquisition, retention, and withdrawal of items and resources in its collection.
INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM
Anythink provides a welcoming environment that connects people to ideas, information, and experiences spanning a spectrum of knowledge and opinions. The library is committed to supporting the community’s First Amendment rights and the protections provided by the state and federal constitutions.
Anythink’s collection includes materials that appeal to a broad range of customer interests and points of view. Anythink encourages free exploration of materials, and neither approves nor disapproves of the content of items that are available. In accordance with CRS 24-90-122, Anythink will not exclude a work from the collection based on the ethnic origin, ethnic background, or gender identity of the creators of the work, or based on the topics or opinions expressed in the work.
Anythink empowers its customers to decide what materials fit their own needs, and to decide what materials are appropriate for their personal or family values. Parents, caregivers, and legal guardians are responsible for their children’s use of library materials.
Anythink follows the principles of the American Library Association’s Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, and Freedom to View statements.
ACCESSING THE COLLECTION
Anythink provides a dynamic, ever-changing collection of materials that are shared among its branches and bookmobile. Library Guidelines
Circulation Guidelines
Loan periods are as follows:
3 weeks: Books and audio media
1 week: Magazines and movies
6 weeks: Book club kits
Materials can be renewed up to three times for the length of time of the original check-out period if no one else is waiting for that item and item has not been set to “lost,” with the exception of Book club kits, which are not renewable. Prospector materials can be renewed once online at https://codcb.coalliance.org.
Overdue Item Guidelines
Anythink does not charge overdue fines for late materials. Customers are sent five notifications of overdue items over a six-week period. During this time, items can be renewed or returned.
A final overdue notice is sent at 42 days, at which point, items are considered lost and can no longer be renewed. The customer’s account is charged for the item and library privileges are suspended until items are returned or paid for.
If items are still not returned in 48 hours after this last notice, Anythink turns the process over to a collection agency to retrieve the materials and an additional $10 processing fee is applied.
Returns
Books and other library materials borrowed from us may be returned to an Anythink library, or any other public or academic library in the Denver metro area, and at many other Colorado locations. Items are only checked in when they reach Anythink so may incur lost status and $10 processing fee if they are more than 42 days overdue. Books and materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan or Prospector must be returned to an Anythink library.
