Career Questions, Answered

Information about filing for unemployment can be found on the Colorado State website. You will find links to three different pages:

  1. Begin your Unemployment Application (link to begin your application is at the bottom of this page).
  2. Frequently Asked Questions
  3. Calculate your unemployment benefits

Make sure you receive, read and print the confirmation page after filing your application. Your application is not complete until you get a confirmation page.

The Colorado State website also has an Unemployment Self-Service Resource Guide which walks you through most of the steps involved in filing for unemployment and checking on the status of your claim.

To file an unemployment claim over the phone, call 303-318-9000 from the Denver-metro area or 1-800-388-5515 from outside the Denver-metro area during normal business hours: 7:30 am-4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, except state-observed legal holidays.

The hearing impaired can call (TDD) 303-318-9016 or 1-800-894-7730.

And what about health insurance?

The federal law, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), allows qualified employees to continue their health insurance benefits, at their expense. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides for a 65 percent reduction in COBRA premiums for certain assistance eligible individuals for up to nine months.
