BMoCA at Anythink presents
Diego Florez-Arroyo: Recontextualized Roots
September 2026 – January 2027
Presented in partnership with the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA), “Recontextualized Roots” is a three-part art installation by artist Diego Florez-Arroyo created with our library branches and their communities in mind.
These large-scale pieces draw influence from Florez-Arroyo’s own heritage, and reflect a site-specific response to the communities of Commerce City, Bennett and Thornton, where the pieces will be displayed. Florez-Arroyo says he hopes viewers will “walk away feeling a sense of home.”
In his distinct and refracted stylization, Florez-Arroyo blends references and metaphors using varied media. In Bennett, his sculptural mariposas rely on technical craft inspired by piñatas alluding to migration. His mobile in Thornton pays homage to Bauhaus influences through its compositional principles. And in Commerce City, the physical segmentation in the painting poetically depicts concepts of duality between misalignment and reunification.
The BMoCA at Anythink partnership presents free, museum-quality exhibitions by regional artists to library branches, along with complementary programs and events. The collaboration works to expand accessible educational and cultural opportunities for Adams County residents of all ages and backgrounds.
