Cover Kings: Get to Know The Corporation

Summer might be winding down, but 80s cover band The Corporation is turning up the heat at our second Community Concert. Whether your vibe is “Uptown Funk” or more “Livin’ on a Prayer,” their setlist is packed with songs that get crowds moving. Before we hit the dance floor, we caught up with bass player Scott Rogers to talk about the band’s big sound, favorite moments, and musical mischief.

Rhythm and Reason

Q: Your setlist spans everything from Aretha Franklin to Bruno Mars to Journey. What’s your secret to keeping that classic-meets-modern party energy going?
A:
Having fun. Do the song. Do it good and honor it.

Q: What’s the crowd reaction you live for when you play live — that moment when you know you’ve got everyone dancing?
A:
When people cheer and stick around in the dance area.

Q: How do you decide which songs make the cut for your shows? Is there a fan favorite you never leave off the setlist?
A:
“Livin’ on a Prayer” never fails. We also ask the booking agent about the age range for each event and shape the genre based on that.

Q: What do each of you love most about performing as part of a big band with so many moving parts?
A:
The happiness. When a crowd cheers, dances, laughs — you can see people smiling and having fun. That’s the best part.

Tunes for Everyone

Q: What role do you think music plays in connecting people across different neighborhoods and walks of life?
A:
Music is everything. It makes you smile, laugh, dance and connect with everyone enjoying that moment at the same time you are.

Q: Why do you think music is important for bringing local communities together?
A: Because music is universal. A good song will move anyone and everyone.

Q: What’s your pre-show ritual — anything unusual or unexpected?
A:
No rituals, really. Most shows are: load up, set up, dress up — then go go go!

Q: What do you hope people feel or take away after seeing The Corporation live?
A:
The happiness. The variety. The quality.

The Playful Side

Q: What’s a song you’ve all been listening to lately that fans might be surprised to hear on your playlist?
A: “Shivers” by Ed Sheeran

Q: If your band were a character in a novel, what would they be like?
A: Happy, quirky, and silly with a bit of mischief.

Q: What’s something unexpected or quirky about the band or your live show that fans might not know?
A:
We bring blow up balloon guitars and let the audience play with them.

Q: What’s a book, movie, or lyric that’s inspired or stuck with you lately?
A: “
The Thunderbolts” — the underdog hero saving the day.
