PURPOSE OF REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION OF LIBRARY RESOURCES POLICY
Anythink provides spaces, materials, displays, programs and services to Adams County residents, as well as informational and recreational resources that represent a variety of viewpoints. The materials, displays, programs, services and resources provided represent Anythink’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and free speech principles, and are chosen in accordance with library policies and procedures. Anythink upholds the right of individuals to access these resources, although the content may be controversial, unorthodox, or unacceptable to some. While Anythink’s varied collections and programs are available to all, it is not expected that everything offered will appeal to everyone.
REQUEST SUBMITTAL PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS
Any resident or property owner within the boundaries of Rangeview Library District may submit a Request for Reconsideration by completing the appropriate form and returning it to the library. A resident or property owner in the Rangeview Library District may submit up to five requests for reconsideration in a calendar year.
The form will be forwarded to the Executive Director who will appoint a director to lead a review committee that includes members of the library’s professional staff and a member of the community to review the request. The professional staff may include guides, specialists, managers, supervisors and/or a director. If an identical or substantially similar item or program has been reviewed in the last three years, Anythink reserves the right to deny an additional review.
The committee will then make a recommendation to the appointed director, who will review their findings and contact the requesting party with their decision. The requesting party will receive a response from the appointed director within 30 days of receipt of the Request for Reconsideration. The item or program in question will remain available to the public during the Request for Reconsideration process. CRS 24-90-122 prohibits retaliation against library staff, contractors or volunteers for refusing to remove a library resource before it has been reviewed according to this policy, or for making acquisition, display or programming decisions in good faith accordance with library standards.
The requesting party may appeal the decision in writing. The appeal will be forwarded to Anythink’s Executive Director who will review the Request for Reconsideration and the committee’s recommendation and issue a final decision which may not be appealed.
After a final determination on a reconsidered resource, the decision will be made publicly available by the Board of Trustees.
Formal requests for reconsideration, either written or in person, are subject to the Colorado Open Records Act and are not protected by library user privacy laws.
