Anythink’s volunteers are known as Sidekicks — and they are a valued part of our libraries.
Day in and day out, they work alongside staff to keep spaces organized, support programs and help create a positive, welcoming experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
Sidekicks take on a wide variety of tasks across our libraries. Some keep shelves in order, making it easier for customers to find exactly what they need. Others care for our collections by cleaning materials or tracking down missing items. These behind-the-scenes contributions may be quiet, but they make a meaningful difference in keeping everything accessible and ready to use.
“Every day is different. I help whichever staff member needs a little help that day. All the activities are very diverse. Each has re-energized my interests in so many things (sometimes long-forgotten things). I feel more aware and engaged than I have in a long time,” said Nan Hemme, a Sidekick at Anythink Thornton Community Center
Many Sidekicks help create the warm, inviting spaces our community enjoys — tidying up, organizing materials and even supporting our community gardens. Others bring their time and talents to programs, helping set up spaces, assist with crafts for kids and teens or provide bilingual support so more people can take part and feel included.
Sidekicks are especially important during our busiest times, like mySummer programming and after-school activities. Their support helps programs run smoothly and ensures that everyone feels comfortable, welcomed and ready to participate.
Every task, big or small, adds up to something important. Sidekicks help keep the library at its best and make it possible for staff to focus on creating meaningful experiences for the community. We’re so grateful for the time, care and dedication they bring to this work.
“There is something special when community members choose to serve others — sharing their love for the library and helping it thrive. Being an Anythink Sidekick means being part of that shared purpose and belonging,” said Justina Wooten, Anythink Sidekick coordinator.
If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is a great time — we currently have a few Sidekick opportunities open. Take a look and see if there’s a good fit for you.
